If you take proper care of your pearl jewelry, you'll find they keep their beauty forever. However, if the proper treatment and attention are not devoted, you'll find your pearls may become dull and lifeless. By following a few simple steps you can easily keep your pearl jewelry looking beautiful forever.
To clean your pearls properly we suggest the following method:
Dip a cloth in alcohol diluted with warm water, or mild soapy water. Gently use the cloth to wipe the pearls. Rinse the cloth in fresh water and again use it to wipe the pearls clean. Finally, dry them with a soft dry cloth.
Below are a few tips to keeping your pearl jewelry looking brand new:
o Clean your pearls with a soft cloth before putting them away (use the method above to thoroughly clean them about once a month)
o Apply all make-up, lotions, perfumes, hairsprays, etc. BEFORE you put your pearl jewelry on. These products contain hard chemicals than can rub into and harm the pearls.
o When storing your pearls, wrap them in a soft cloth to protect them from other objects
o Take notice of the strands on your pearl jewelry about once a year and bring them to your jeweler if they need re-stringing. All strands will need to be restrung from time to time, depending on the amount of wear. Consult your jeweler if you're not sure.
Pearls are quite delicate and if mistreated, can be damaged quickly. Some things you should never do with your beautiful pearl jewelry:
o Never clean your pearl jewelry with harsh chemical solutions such as detergents or those than contain ammonia. They will wear away the coating on your pearls.
o Don't use anything but a soft cloth to clean your pearl jewelry. Using a brush or other harsh object will damage your pearls.
o Do not clean your pearls using an ultrasonic cleaner. Pearls are cleaned best by hand.
